Here at Chamlian we take every opportunity to excite students about literacy. One way to emphasize the importance of reading is through read alouds. The Anita Torosian Literacy & Resource Center celebrated World Read Aloud Day on Wednesday, February 5th. Instead of a typical read aloud, 3rd grade students were read to by an actual astronaut from the International Space Station. Members of our Chamlian Character Counts Crew, Armenian Club, Booster Club, and Student Council spent their Saturday volunteering for the Armenian Educational Foundation’s School Supply Project! Մեր վարժարանը հրաւիրուած էր մասնակցելու Ազգային Առաջնորդարանին կողմէ կազմակերպուած՝ բանաստեղծ Ժագ Յակոբեանին նուիրուած յուշ երեկոյի գեղարուեստական յայտագիրին : Վարժարանիս ութերորդ կարգէն խումբ մը աշակերտներ արտասանեցին բանաստեղծ Ժագ Ս. Յակոբեանի քերթուածներէն «Ո՛վ Հայ, Խօսէ՛ Հայերէն»ը: 7րդ կարգէն Հրակ Խաչերեանը փոխանցեց յուշեր Օրդ. Անի Պէրպէրեանէն, որ աշակերտած է Պրն. Յակոբեանին: Վարժարանիս 5րդ- 7րդ կարգերու աշակերտներէն կազմուած երգչախումբը ներկայացուց «Անին Տեսնեմ Ու Նոր Մեռնեմ» երգը:
Our Chamlian students were invited to partake in the memorial tribute of Mr. Jacques Hagopian at St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church. It was a priceless privilege to honor the memory of one of the greats through poetry recitation, music, and song. We thank Ms. Suzy Pashayan, our music teacher, for preparing our students’ singing as well as the Armenian Department for their leadership in teaching our students one of Mr. Jacques Hagopian’s poems. Third grade students visited the Columbia Space Center as part of their science curriculum. Students participated in a variety of hands on activities related to space as well as had the opportunity to practice coding in the robotics lab. At Chamlian, through innovative programs and engaging opportunities, we ignite a community of critical and creative thinkers. In an effort to spark students’ interest in spelling and expanding their vocabulary, Chamlian conducts an annual Spelling Bee competition open to students in grades 4 through 6. To begin, each classroom conducts an internal Spelling Bee, after which each teacher submits the names of three finalists to compete in the school wide competition. We are proud of all our finalists and the first place winner, Joseph Hairapetian, who will go on to compete in the LA County Spelling Bee! Dr. Kargodorian was very proud of all the students.
