The excitement was evident as students arrived to school with smiles on their faces, greeting old friends, meeting new ones, and eagerly finding their new classrooms and teachers.
The ceremony began with opening remarks by Mrs. Rita Kaprielian, Vice Principal, who welcomed the parents, students, teachers. Next, Archpriest Vazken Atmajian, led the students in prayer and the American and Armenian pledges.
Following the oath, Board member Mr. Armen Abrahamian delivered the school Board's message by wishing everyone a successful school year and thanking the parents for believing in Chamlian Armenian School and its mission. Afterward, Archpriest Reverend Father Vatche Balekjian presented a welcome back to school message from Archbishop Moushegh Martirossian.

Afterwards, as part of a long standing school tradition, each first grader was assigned to an 8th grader or their own parent if he/she was an alumnus of the school. This Chamlian tradition symbolizes the school’s commitment to educating our youth from one generation to the next. For that reason, Kindergarten, 1st grade, 8th grade, and Alumni parents made a grand entrance into the ceremony and were welcomed by the school.
Finally, our principal, Dr. Talin P. Kargodorian, provided an inspirational message touching upon Chamlian’s core values, the school's/teacher's roles as well as the students' part in ensuring success. Adding to the day's ceremonial event were blue and white balloons given to each 1st and 8th grade student to unleash into the air as the official indicator of the new school year. Concluding the ceremony, students released their balloons into the sky, symbolizing the limitless possibilities available to students. Dr. Kargodorian officially declared the 2017-2018 school year open and inspired students to start a successful academic year.
